Tyler Griese 

Through painting, I try to capture the stories and struggles of people and elevate these human narratives in order to develop a more empathetic view towards a myriad of different contexts of what it means to be human.  The journey of art-making leads me to small moments of nuance which illuminate how everyday actions depicted in the paintings exist in an empathetic unity between the viewer and the subtle, often enigmatic moments present in the work.  I paint what I experience and the experience painting is crucial to my work.  Through the application of paint, I seek to add a dialogue of both technique and materials.  I look to lighting and compositional strategies to aid in visual interest and order.
